in the inaugural for president obama four years ago and we had no idea what we were doing, i can tell you the folks, regardless of who the chair is and the folks at j.t.f. are there ready for you when you walk in the door and do the logistical lift. we make sure the president's imprint is put on one of these events. in the parade as the colonel mentioned along with all of these military elements, there are 58 different groups. 58 different groups, floats and vehicles. these are from all 50 states. they are everything from the virginia military institute just across the river in virginia, down in southern virginia, which has marched in a number of inaugural parades through a group of maine of unicyclists, which are called the jim dandies. they will pass review in front of the white house. the president will stand and watch the entire review and enjoy the parade along with thousands of folks who will come down and be watching from along the parade route. once that ends, the president goes inside and the official part of his day is done. and he gets ready for the inaugural balls. as you

can't do it. i was around for the battle during the clinton years. i was not a member of congress. i was a victim sitting in the audience as many of the others were there. but with the vice president and certainly president obama with their strength of the office and going around the country and talking to americans which basically agree with the president, it's going to be up to the people across the country to talk to their members of congress to make sure that we and get this done. this can save lives. we've saw that. when the large magazine clips, which i've been reintroducing ever since 204, when that ban was in place, we did not see these magazines out on the streets. and they were very expensive because they were rare. we can do that again to cut that down. we're not going to be taking away anyone's right to own a gun. the supreme court already did that. but with the president laying out what he did, in a very holistic way, by the way, by working with our schools, making sure we have community policing, have psychologists. it's going to be up to the schools to make the deci

of other sort of flash point over the last two years is that president obama engaged public opinion. he did it with student loans, he did it with hurricane sandy, he did it with the fiscal cliff. they obviously originated measures in the senate. because the house right now because of that dysfunctional caucus, the republican caucus is incapable of originating anything that has a prayer of becoming law. and that we used that process to basically shake those votes loose. of those individuals who again, i have talked to numbers of republicans privately in the wake of newtown who care about this. you know, there really are people on the other side of my aisle who i think we can work with this on this. and again, common sense measures about making existing laws work which is essentially what the president did today with his executive orders. and looking at orders that those in my district says they can support. limiting the size of clips, strengthening the background check system. these are measures from my own experience they believe and would support. >> thank you. and thank you also f

, as president obama noted yesterday the u.s. economy's actually poised for a good year if only congress can get out of the way. i kind of paraphrased that last part. now that we know we're not going to be minting a trillion dollar coin, we need something different. a bill that would repeal the debt ceiling altogether. it is an idea supported publicly by alan greenspan and times man of the year last year, ben bernanke. it is an idea that could prevent lawmakers from lurching our country from one crisis to the next just to ring out some short-term gain until another republican sits in the oval office. that's why it's probably an idea that this congress has no chance of making law. but joining me now is one of the sponsors of the bill to repeal the debt ceiling altogether, democratic congressman from vermont and a member of the committee on house oversight and government reform, representative peter welch. sir, thank you so much for joining us tonight. >> good to be with you. >> john: right on. let me ask you just for starters, why does the debt ceiling exist in the first place. d
